Nice Work If You Can Get It

OK,

Please tell me you have seen NBC's new hit SMASH?! It has everything needed for the theater geek in all of you. Glittz, glam, music, talent, and so many actual Broadway stars. The show follows the creation of a new musical all about Marilyn Monroe, and the viewer is brought into the casting, for the title role. The two girls who are up for it are Katherine McPhee (Karen) and Megan Hilty (Ivy) Mcphee of Idol fame, and Hilty is a seasons Broadway vet.  I urge everyone to check it out!

Mondays at 10 on NBC !

An Old-Fashioned Love Story

Today's post comes on the 5 year anniversary of my boyfriend and I. We have been together since HS, and seen each other and our worst and our best. One of the first signs that he was a keeper, was for our first Valentines day he got us tickets to see Spring Awakening on BWAY. He was just as excited as I was (if that is possible!) We had awesome seats, and the performance was unbelievable.  He has also taken me to see Legal Blonde, and his iTunes have an impressive amount of show tunes in them. Yes, girls if I could offer you any advice its it find a partner who welcomes what you love, and takes an interest in your life. Just make sure you return the favor.
So baby here is a BWAY love song for you. Happy 5 <3

I Can't Stand Still

One of my favorite shows that I was in has to be FOOTLOOSE !!! Everything from the cast to the energy was above par. Yes people before MTV remade it, it was both on Broadway anddd Kevin Bacon lit up the screen as Ren Mccormack. Please give a listen to the OBC recoding, it is the perfect soundtrack to get ready to in the morning.

Anything Goes

Hello All,
One of the tings I love about ze theatre is how it is always changing and reinventing itself. For example you could go one night to see the Broadway revival of the classic How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and the next head on down to see Spider-Man Turn Off the Lights.  That is whats great about theatre, anything goes.  Their is no cookie-cutter mold for how to make a good Broadway show. Their is something for everyone. Just another reason why this art form is one of the best ways for self-expression.

Defying Gravity

Defying Gravity from Wicked is a song/ moment in my life that will always be special.  My first time seeing this show on Broadway was amazing. However, I was brought to tears during the climax of this song. Nerdy I know, but its true.
have a listen and see what I mean.

'S Wonderful

When looking for things to post about, I found this quote from my FAVORITE actress of all time: Julie Andrews

"I don't think today's younger audience... would even know what 1920s musicals were like. "
Julie Andrews.

Well Julies, it is because of the then ground breaking shows in the 1920, that the theatre today owes everything too. For example Florenz Ziegfeld, and his iconic Ziegfeld Follies gave the American people an opportunity to see a show like never before. The costumes, sparkle, and extremely talented women lit up the stage, and would forever inspire generations to come.

Shows like Show Boat (1927) "
"Show Boat" was a testament to the courage of composer Jerome Kern, lyricist and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II, and producer Florenz Ziegfeld. In an era of "willful nonsense," they attempted a complicated musical narrative epic with challenging themes and many storylines. It was the first time that serious black and white characters held the stage together as equals." (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/broadway/musicals/showboat.html)

Here is a clip from my favorite song from the show:
